You may have heard that there is currently an outbreak of Distemper in Gauteng which seems to have spread from Kwazulu Natal. If you are not aware of it please read this article by The Citizen.
Distemper is a serious viral disease that is highly contagious and for which there is no treatment other than supportive treatment for animals that have been infected. The mortality rate for this disease is very high and 50 % of cases die.
This virus is transmitted through direct or indirect contact with infected animals, and may even be transmitted via the air. Vaccination is the only effective way to prevent the disease.
In order to keep distemper out of our area, it is important that all dogs are vaccinated regularly and that their vaccinations are up to date. If your dog has not been vaccinated in the past year, your dog may be susceptible to the virus.
To assist in ensuring our neighbourhood is distemper free, we are giving 35% off on all vaccinations in February 2019. To take us up on this offer, please make a booking below.
If you have any questions on distemper, please visit our website and read our article here or feel free to give us a call and we will gladly assist.
